iPhone users in Pakistan may have to wait longer for official 5G support, as Apple is reportedly planning to enable 5G services for Pakistani users in 2027 instead of immediately after the country’s 5G rollout.
According to officials from the Ministry of IT and Telecom, Apple has informed Pakistani authorities that the company is still evaluating the local smartphone market before officially activating the 5G option for iPhones in Pakistan.
At the moment, Apple devices sold in Pakistan can support 5G hardware-wise, but the feature remains disabled locally because carrier settings and regional approval are still pending.
Why Apple Has Not Enabled 5G in Pakistan Yet
Government officials reportedly said that Apple is carefully reviewing Pakistan’s market conditions before enabling official 5G compatibility for local iPhone users.
One of the major reasons behind the delay is believed to be Pakistan’s relatively smaller premium smartphone market. High import taxes on mobile phones, especially flagship iPhones, have significantly affected Apple’s presence in the country.
Industry analysts believe Apple usually enables regional telecom features after:
- telecom infrastructure becomes stable
- carrier partnerships are finalized
- market demand reaches sufficient levels
Until then, Pakistani iPhone users may continue using:
- 4G LTE
- VoLTE
- standard mobile connectivity features
without native 5G activation.
Samsung Phones Already Supporting 5G
While Apple is still evaluating the Pakistani market, several Android smartphone brands have already started supporting 5G services in the country.
Samsung devices are currently among the first smartphones officially compatible with Pakistan’s emerging 5G infrastructure. Other manufacturers are also expected to expand compatibility as commercial rollout grows.
Many newer Android devices already support:
- NSA 5G
- SA 5G
- multiple global 5G bands
which makes them more flexible for early network deployment phases.
Pakistan’s 5G Rollout Continues
Pakistan recently moved forward with its 5G expansion after completing a major spectrum auction earlier this year.
The government auctioned spectrum worth approximately:
- $507 million
to improve:
- internet speeds
- network capacity
- telecom infrastructure
- next-generation connectivity
Three major telecom operators:
- Jazz
- Zong
- Ufone
secured spectrum licenses for future 5G services.
Jazz Became the Largest Spectrum Buyer
According to PTA details, Jazz emerged as the largest buyer during the auction process.
The operator secured spectrum across several important frequency bands including:
- 700 MHz
- 2300 MHz
- 2600 MHz
- 3500 MHz
These bands are considered important for:
- wider 5G coverage
- high-speed internet
- low-latency services
- urban and rural connectivity
The overall auction resulted in the sale of 480 MHz spectrum for Pakistan’s expanding telecom sector.
Telecom Operators Preparing Equipment for 5G
Telecom industry officials have also confirmed that operators have already started ordering:
- network hardware
- telecom equipment
- 5G infrastructure systems
required for nationwide deployment.
Pakistan’s telecom industry is currently focusing on:
- tower upgrades
- fiber expansion
- spectrum optimization
- next-generation network deployment
as the country moves toward broader 5G availability.
What This Means for Pakistani iPhone Users
Although 5G may officially arrive later for iPhones, Apple users in Pakistan can still expect future compatibility once:
- carrier support is finalized
- Apple enables regional settings
- telecom infrastructure expands further
Experts believe official iPhone 5G activation could improve:
- download speeds
- streaming quality
- online gaming
- video calling performance
for Apple users across Pakistan in the coming years.
